Method and assumptions
  1. Bands come from the Public Bid-Tab Price Book: unit prices ($/kVA, $/section, $/kW, $/ton) from public utility, municipal and state procurement awards, grouped by class, size range, voltage and region. A cell publishes only when it holds 5 or more awards; below that the tool says so rather than printing a number.
  2. Your quote is compared to the band's 25th to 75th percentile times your size. Award prices are what a public body paid, usually ex-freight and ex-install unless the award says otherwise; a private quote sits higher for expedite fees and lower for volume.
  3. Lead times are the published figures used by the Lead-Time-Adjusted Schedule: Wood Mackenzie averages as reported, Schneider's Lead Times Guide, and contractor slot quotes. Quoted, not shipped.
  4. Region falls back to the US-wide band when a regional cell is thin. If no regional data exists you see the fallback labelled.

Data state: 42 bands from research/data/bid_tabs/bands.csv (29 publishable at n >= 5).

Method

Bands are unit prices from public procurement awards in the Public Bid-Tab Price Book, grouped by class, size range, voltage and region. A cell publishes only when it holds five or more awards; until then the tool says “insufficient public awards yet” and points to the Equipment Price Benchmark contribution form rather than printing a number. Lead times are the same published figures the Lead-Time-Adjusted Schedule uses. As of 2026-09-10 the award file is still being compiled, so every cell shows the contribute state.

Every input is mirrored to the URL so a scenario can be shared as a link.

Default assumptions come from the Public Bid-Tab Price Book. Pro subscribers can save inputs; Institutional seats get the underlying series.
