Independence and compliance
What we do not hold, do not take and do not do, and the one disclosure that applies to our electrical-contracting coverage.
Independence
Open Factory, its staff and its contractors do not hold equity, debt, options or advisory positions in any company we rate, rank or cover, directly or through funds we control. Existing holdings are disclosed and frozen. We do not trade a covered public company's securities within 30 days either side of a piece naming it.
Sponsorship
No sponsored articles. Benchmarks a vendor funds or supplies hardware for are labelled "Sponsored benchmark" at the top, name the sponsor, use a methodology published before testing, and give the sponsor no approval over results. A sponsor cannot appear in a ratings report it funds.
Data products
Each model states what it is compiled from and what we collected ourselves. Panel sizes and quote counts are published only when true. Benchmark contributors are anonymous; no vendor sees an individual quote.
Ratings
Every rated company receives its scores and inputs ten business days before publication and may reply in 200 words, printed verbatim.
Corrections
Errors are corrected in place with a dated note and listed at /corrections. Substantiated complaints are acted on within two business days: corrections@open-factory.com.
Disclosure
Prannay Hebbar, the founder, spent six months in 2024 and early 2025 evaluating the purchase of a Mister Sparky electrical-contractor franchise in Palo Alto and did not complete it. He holds no interest in Mister Sparky, Authority Brands or any electrical contractor. Confidential information from that diligence is not used in our work. Pieces on electrical contracting carry this note.
